You know the saying: New Year, New Car. If you’re planning on starting the decade on a fresh set of wheels then you may want to take a minute to think about what you’re going to do with your current car. If its miles are numbered, and it’s reached the end of its life, scrapping might be the best option.

There are quite a few laws and regulations in place when scrapping your car that need to be taken into account. For example, your car will have to be scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility (or ATF) and it’s illegal to be paid in cash for a car that’s being scrapped. At Henry Orchard and Sons, we stringently know and follow the legal guidelines, meaning your car is scrapped both legally and responsibly.

If you’re completely scrapping a car, light van or 3-wheeled motor vehicle, you’ll get a ‘certificate of destruction’ within 7 days, to prove you’ve handed the vehicle over. This means you’re no longer liable for traffic offence penalties or vehicle tax. We’ll then pay you the scrap value of the vehicle via a bank transfer.

After this, you’ll have to inform the DVLA your car has been taken to an ATF, else you could be facing some hefty fines.

Otherwise, that’s all there is to it! We’ll breakdown and recycle your car using specialist depollution equipment, giving parts of it a whole new lease of life, and you’ve got a spot on your drive way ready for a brand new shiny car to take its place!
