Are there things lying around your home that could earn money for Christmas?

Pile of metal gleaming with text Are there things around your home that could earn you money for Christmas?

This year, more than ever many of us could do with being efficient with the pennies when it comes to spending money for the festive season.

The good news is that there may well be things lying around your house and garden that could earn you some extra money to help with the Christmas shopping this year.

Here at Henry Orchard & Sons, we pay the best prices for scrap metal, and things that are commonly found in homes could earn you £100s.

Items to look out for include:

  • Old greenhouse frames
  • Copper pipes and tanks
  • Kitchen sinks and radiators
  • Brass items such as taps, old musical instruments or old bed frames
  • Vehicle batteries and parts

Please note, however, that unfortunately, we cannot take old electrical items including microwaves, and toasters. Due to the complex nature of modern electrical and electronic equipment, electrical items must be processed by an authorised treatment facility in order to comply with legal standards.

We encourage you to take any domestic waste of this nature that you have to a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC). These are free to use for the public.

As well as earning money, it’s also good to know that by recycling scrap metal, you’re helping to reduce the energy and carbon emissions needed to manufacture new metal. Also, we ensure that metal is recycled and processed as sustainably as possible, greatly reducing the impact on the environment.

BEFORE YOU VISIT!

The Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013 means that by law, we cannot pay cash in return for scrap metal.  However, we can make cashless payments for your scrap metal in the form of a cheque or Visa Card Refund. One important thing is that to get your payment you must bring ID to our office at the site when you bring your scrap metal.

Here is what you need.

  • A valid (in date) photo ID. This can be a driver’s licence or a shotgun or firearms licence that matches your payment details.

Or

If you cannot provide either of these you will need to bring the following two items of ID.

–  An in-date passport

AND one of the following proof of address no older than three months

  • A statement from your bank or building society
  • A statement from your debit or credit card
  • A Council Tax demand letter or statement
  • A utility bill (this does NOT include mobile phone bills)

Once we have checked your ID and you have your payment details ready, we will:

  • weigh your metal on our fully calibrated weighbridges
  • arrange a payment method
  • produce a “Police Record Note” receipt listing the materials, weights, price per unit and value.
